Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the festival?
2021 will be the third consecutive year The Moonshiner’s Ball will be held at the beautiful private concert venue Rockcastle Riverside. The venue is located in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, about 75 minutes south of Lexington.
Please do NOT use the default iPhone Maps app to guide you to the venue!
It CONSISTENTLY leads people to the wrong place, even when you plug in the address directly.
Rockcastle Riverside is VERY easy to get to if you follow these directions.
If you’re traveling from Lexington / Louisville / Cincinnati, you’ll be taking I-75 South.
From 1-75, take Exit 49 (909/ US 25 / Livingston)
Take a LEFT off the exit, onto 909-N
909 will dead end after just under a mile – take a LEFT onto 25-N
After about a mile on 25-N, you will see a business called Rockcastle Trading Company on your right. Take a LEFT here onto 1329. (This is our road!)
After about 5 miles down 1329, the venue will be on your left. You will know you are getting close when you pass Rockcastle River Cabins.
We’ve generally had luck with GoogleMaps and with Waze, but cell service isn’t super reliable in this neck of the woods – please make sure you screenshot these directions and follow them!
What if we bought tickets for the 2020 event?
All tickets purchased through Eventbrite for the 2020 event that were not refunded will be honored for the 2021 event. That includes car camping, RV and Friends with Benefits passes. We recommend bringing proof of your purchase to the gate, but we will also have records of all sales on hand.
What are the Festival Gate Hours?
Daily gate hours are as follows:
- Thursday, Oct. 7: 4 p.m.- midnight
- Friday, Oct. 8: 9 a.m. – 1 a.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 9: 9 a.m. – 12 a.m.
- Sunday, Oct. 10: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Venue closes at 6 p.m. on Sunday, so please plan to pack out by then! We miss you already!)
How much does it cost for camping?
Tent camping is included in the price of all Full Weekend Passes and Saturday-Sunday Two Day Passes (please note that day pass holders are NOT permitted to camp). All RV Passes, Primitive RV Passes and Car Camping Passes (i.e., camping next to your vehicle) have sold out for 2021 – there are still lots of fantastic campsites available, but not all of them are accessible by vehicle. Don’t worry, our team will help get you & your gear to your site! If you are dying to camp next to your vehicle but didn’t snag a car camping pass in time, please inquire about Turkey Trace, a small, wooded campsite across the street from the main venue – we will have a handful of camping sites available over there for $60 per vehicle, first come first serve. Click here for more details about camping at the Moonshiner’s Ball.
Will there be alcohol?
OK, so this is a silly question. Of course there will be alcohol. There will not be alcohol FOR SALE, however. Alcohol cannot and will not be sold at the festival venue. Rockcastle County is completely dry. You are allowed and encouraged to bring your own beverages of choice (bring enough to share if you want to make some new friends!).
Will there be food?
Are dogs allowed?
Are fires allowed?
Will tickets be available at the gate?
Possibly. Attendance will be limited due to the current state of the world, so we do anticipate a sell-out in advance of the event. If there are tickets remaining, the gate price will be higher than the online ticket price. We recommend you buy in advance if at all possible.
Will you take credit cards or is it cash only?
We take credit cards at the front gate and at the merchandise table, but you might need cash for food and band merchandise. There is not an ATM on the farm. Bring plenty of cash.
What's the COVID policy?
Every Moonshiner’s Ball 2021 attendee, regardless of vaccination status, will be given a mandatory rapid antigen test for COVID-19 before proceeding to the ticket booth and entering the festival. The tests are nasal swabs administered by Wild Health; they take about 15 minutes to process and you will be asked to remain in your vehicle until the results have been processed. Anyone who tests positive will need to leave the festival, and will be issued a refund or given the option to roll over admission to the 2022 festival. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding as we do our part to keep our festival safe and healthy and to reduce community spread.
What should I bring?
In addition to your camping gear, here are a few things that we recommend bringing to optimize your festival experience: Cooler, beverages (The Moonshiner’s Ball takes place in a dry county and is a BYOB festival!), camping chairs and/or blankets/tapestries to sit on, travel-size hand sanitizer, face mask (masks are recommended for all indoor spaces, such as restrooms/port-o-pots and the General store), warm clothes, towels, comfy shoes/boots, rain gear, sunscreen, plenty of drinking water, portable phone charger, cash (we can’t guarantee that all vendors will accept cards).
Are showers available?
We are sorry to report that the Rockcastle Riverside showers were damaged due to flooding earlier this year, and will not be available. Don’t worry, you smell great (and we will all be in the same no-shower boat!)
