Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the festival?
We are excited to return to the beautiful private concert venue Rockcastle Riverside, our home since 2018. The venue is located at 4211 Lower River Rd., Livingston, Ky, in Rockcastle County, Kentucky (about 75 minutes south of Lexington).
We recommend taking a screenshot of these directions, as directional apps have sometimes been known to lead people astray. Rockcastle Riverside is VERY easy to get to if you follow these directions.
If you’re traveling from Lexington / Louisville / Cincinnati, you’ll be taking I-75 South.
From 1-75, take Exit 49 (909/ US 25 / Livingston)
Take a LEFT off the exit, onto 909-N
909 will dead end after just under a mile – take a LEFT onto 25-N
After about a mile on 25-N, you will see a business called Rockcastle Trading Company on your right. Take a LEFT here onto 1329. (This is our road!)
After about 5 miles down 1329, the venue will be on your left. You will know you are getting close when you pass Rockcastle River Cabins.
We’ve generally had luck with Google Maps and with Waze, but cell service isn’t super reliable in this neck of the woods – please make sure you screenshot these directions and follow them!
What are the Festival Gate Hours?
2022 MOONSHINER’S BALL GATE HOURS:
How much does it cost for camping?
Tent camping is included in the price of all Full Weekend Passes and Saturday-Sunday Two Day Passes (please note that day pass holders are NOT permitted to camp). All Deluxe RV Passes, Primitive RV Passes and Car Camping Passes (i.e., camping next to your vehicle) will go on sale soon. Don’t worry, our team will help get you & your gear to your site! If you are dying to camp next to your vehicle but didn’t snag a car camping pass in time, please inquire about Turkey Trace, a small, wooded campsite across the street from the main venue – we will have a handful of camping sites available over there for $60 per vehicle, first come first serve. Click here for more details about camping at the Moonshiner’s Ball.
Will there be alcohol?
OK, so this is a silly question. Of course there will be alcohol. There will not be alcohol FOR SALE, however. Alcohol cannot and will not be sold at the festival venue. Rockcastle County is completely dry. You are allowed and encouraged to bring your own beverages of choice (bring enough to share if you want to make some new friends!).
Will there be food?
Are dogs allowed?
New this year, we will be allowing a limited number of well-behaved, well-socialized festival dogs into the Ball! Our dog policy is as follows:
- You must purchase a separate ticket for your dog
- You must display the Moonshiner’s Dog wristband you get at the gate on his/her collar the entire time
- Dogs must be leashed in all common areas (stage lawn, vendor areas, near the kids’ tent – basically anywhere outside your campsite)
- You must clean up after your dog – please bring plenty of doggie bags
- Only WELL-BEHAVED, WELL-SOCIALIZED dogs will be allowed – keep in mind that we have lots of kids running around the festival, there’s a strong body of water nearby, and there will be other dogs and lots of random things your dog could get into. If any of these sound like a bad mix for your pup, please consider leaving him/her at home. If we have repeated problems with your dog, you will be asked to take him/her home. (No refunds)
Are fires allowed?
Will tickets be available at the gate?
We do anticipate a sell-out in advance of the event. If there are tickets remaining, the gate price will be higher than the online ticket price. We recommend you buy in advance if at all possible.
Will you take credit cards or is it cash only?
We take credit cards at the front gate and at the merchandise table, but you might need cash for food and band merchandise. There is not an ATM on the farm. Bring plenty of cash.
What's the COVID policy?
We currently do not have any COVID restrictions, save that if you are feeling sick, please stay home. We are monitoring the current state of the world and will update if necessary.
Last year, every festival attendee was given a mandatory rapid antigen test for COVID-19 before proceeding to the ticket booth and entering the festival. The tests were nasal swabs administered by Wild Health; they took about 15 minutes to process and attendees were asked to remain in their vehicles until the results had been processed. Only one person tested positive and had to leave the festival. They were issued a refund or given the option to roll over admission to the 2022 festival. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding as we do our part to keep our festival safe and healthy and to reduce community spread.
What should I bring?
In addition to your camping gear, here are a few things that we recommend bringing to optimize your festival experience: Cooler, beverages (The Moonshiner’s Ball takes place in a dry county and is a BYOB festival!), camping chairs and/or blankets/tapestries to sit on, travel-size hand sanitizer, face mask (masks are recommended for all indoor spaces, such as restrooms/port-o-pots and the General store), warm clothes, towels, comfy shoes/boots, rain gear, sunscreen, plenty of drinking water, portable phone charger, cash (we can’t guarantee that all vendors will accept cards).Â
Are showers available?
I have a disabled person license plate, placard, or have accessibility concerns. Is there someone I can talk to about the festival parking, camping, or terrain?
Yes! Please send an email to angela@themoonshinersball.com with your questions or concerns and they will provide more information.
